Description

The University of Washington (UW) is recruiting one (1) full-time faculty member in Radiation Oncology at the Assistant Professor level without tenure by reason of funding. This will be a primarily clinical position with protected time for scholarly activity. The disease site specialization will be determined based upon the needs of the department, the interests of the candidate and as approved by the Chair. The Department of Radiation Oncology has an established mentorship program that supports junior faculty and others in professional development. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will be expected to advance the department's mission of clinical care, research, education, and equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). The selected candidate will be proposed for appointment to the full-time faculty at the University of Washington as an Assistant Professor without tenure by reason of funding on the regular track (either Clinician-Teacher or Clinician-Scientist), with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

Faculty in the Department of Radiation Oncology practice at several of our partner institutions: Fred Hutch Cancer Center (which includes the Proton Therapy Center, South Lake Union Cancer Clinic, Peninsula Cancer Center and UWMC-Northwest Clinic), UWMC-Montlake, Seattle Children's Hospital, Harborview Medical Center and VA Puget Sound. The department provides an extensive and outstanding array of radiation oncology modalities for cancer patients, including proton therapy, neutron therapy, Gamma Knife radiosurgery, LDR and HDR brachytherapy, IORT, intravascular brachytherapy, and SBRT.

Department Overview:

UW Medicine and its partner institutions provide an extensive and outstanding array of radiation oncology modalities for cancer patients. The Department of Radiation Oncology treats over 2,800 patients annually from a multi-state region covering over 25% of the U.S. geographic area. The University of Washington has the only Radiation Oncology department in North America that has clinical particle beam delivery systems for both proton and neutron therapy. Our clinical approach is collaborative with numerous multidisciplinary clinics, tumor boards and disease specific chart rounds. We are a part of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and have strong translational and clinical research collaborations. The Department has 39 physicians, 12 advanced practice providers, 35 physicists, and 2 research faculty. Educational opportunities in our residency programs, fellowship programs and postdoctoral scholarship abound. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in research and education, as well as strong collaboration with the multidisciplinary clinical teams.

The variety of neighborhoods within Seattle and surrounding areas offer a diversity of environments for families and single adults to call home, connected by bike commuting trails and a rapidly growing public transportation system.

The base salary range for this position will be $25,000 - $31,250 per month ($300,000 - $375,000 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Depart,ment of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive via the UW Physicians practice plan.
