SRB:

The State Reclamation and Mosquito Control Board oversees mosquito control in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts including 11 regional programs. It establishes administrative and technical policies, guidelines, and best management practices to ensure mosquito control programs are safe and effective.

Job Description:

The Northeast Massachusetts Mosquito Control & Wetlands Management District seeks applicants for a Seasonal Field Technician (short-term seasonal contract position) to perform the following duties:

Surveillance- 2 days a week & Catch Basin Applications – 2 days a week 

Hours may be flexible up to 40 hrs per week

Responsibilities include: The Seasonal Field Technician will receive direction from the Director, Field Crew Supervisor, and/or the Entomologist. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Operating a state vehicle
  • Operating a state vehicle along assigned routes applying mosquito control products.
  • Carefully and following all established traffic laws, regulations and common-sense safety practices.
  • Setting up and picking up mosquito traps for arbovirus testing in the District service area.
  • Collecting mosquito samples in an organized manner.
  • Applying larvicides to catch basins within the district.
  • Seasonal Field Technicians may also be assigned additional duties and responsibilities as determined by the District Director or Field Crew Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • As a condition of employment, the applicant must obtain a Catch Basin Larvicide Permit, but no prior experience necessary. Paid training will be provided for the test.

  • Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years old, possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record and be physically fit.

  • Must be comfortable working outdoors and must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds over uneven terrain.
