Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking candidates for the position of Principal/Senior Principal Experimental Physicist to support advanced technology development programs. This position is on site in Linthicum, MD OR Annapolis Junction, MD.

This position requires full-time on-site support at our Linthicum, MD location or our Annapolis Junction, MD.

Responsibilities:

  • Characterize the electrical/ thermal properties and performance of superconducting circuits at cryogenic temperatures.
  • Development and implementation of advanced test equipment, methods, and procedures.
  • Collect, analyze, interpret and manage test data. 
  • Effectively summarize and communicate results to peers and stakeholders.
  • Support the current and future development of test platforms within function, cost, and schedule constraints.
  • Document equipment and test requirements/ procedures.
  • Help define changes to improve testing methodology, equipment, testing procedures, and manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with test/ design/ software/ operations teams to assess device function /performance and understand potential impact to system applications.

This position may be filled as a principal or Sr. Principal level based on the requirements below.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Experimental Physicist:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with 5 years of relevant experience; Master's degree in STEM related field with 3 years' of relevant technical experience OR Masters’ degree in STEM related field and currently enrolled in a PhD program with a completion date prior to start with 1 year of relevant technical experience OR PhD in STEM related field with 1 year of relevant technical experience.
  • Research lab experience using electrical/ computer equipment (e.g. Network Analyzer, Oscilloscope, Arbitrary Waveform Generator, FPGA etc.).
  • Trouble shooting and system integration experience.
  • Skilled coding for lab testing and data analysis. (e.g. Python, Matlab, C, C++)
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team
  • Demonstrated analytic skills and data analysis experience.
  • This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance per customers’ requirements.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with 8 years of relevant technical experience; Master’s Degree in STEM related field with 6 years’ of relevant technical experience; PhD in STEM related field with 4 years of relevant technical experience.
  • Research lab experience using electrical/ computer equipment (e.g. Network Analyzer, Oscilloscope, Arbitrary Waveform Generator, FPGA etc.).
  • Trouble shooting, system integration and instrument automation experience.
  • Skilled coding for lab testing and data analysis (e.g. Python, Matlab, C, C++).
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team
  • Demonstrated analytic skills and data analysis experience.
