Project Manager I, Public Health Sciences, part-time

Our group in the Program in Health Services Research conducts research evaluating health policy and clinical interventions, focusing on health disparities. The Program also administers the Health Services Research Core within the Wake Forest CTSI. Ongoing and recent studies examine the impact of national, Medicaid, and Medicare policy changes on access to and utilization of healthcare among low-income and racial/ethnic minority populations. Our projects involve a multidisciplinary team of researchers from health economics, health services research, medicine, epidemiology, biostatistics, and psychology. We typically use large administrative/claims databases of healthcare utilization and health surveys and apply advanced statistical/econometric models to assess policy impact. We also collaborate on clinical interventions to assess costs and value.

JOB SUMMARY

Under administrative review, the project manager performs management-level work directed toward the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the assigned research projects. Requires the use of judgment and discretion in performing the assigned duties and responsibilities related to the project. This is a part-time position (20 hrs/week).

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in relevant social or health sciences such as Economics, Business, Psychology, Nursing, or Basic Science with three years of relevant administrative and medical experience in research projects; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree in a relevant discipline with experience beyond three years preferred. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Assumes major responsibility for the successful and timely completion of the tasks that comprise the implementation and analysis phases of the project, including planning, development, implementation, and evaluation. This includes tasks relating to the administration of the Program and the Health Services Research Core.
2. Assist in preparing IRB applications, data use agreements, contracts, and subcontracts. 
3. Responsible for developing and monitoring the study budget. Assist in managing project finances and arranging disbursements and payments from the study budget. Compiles and prepares financial progress reports. Performs other incidental duties related to the work described herein. 
4. Ensures that all aspects of the following are completed:
   1. Study is conducted in accordance with the study protocol and contract
   2. Legal aspects adhere to state and federal regulations and guidelines
   3. Requirements of the Medical School and the University are complied with, relative to the conduct of the study
   4. Technical requirements of the funding agency are met, including auditing requirements
5. Coordinates the hiring and provides direction to support staff. Plans and coordinates training sessions for project personnel. 
6. Directs the development and preparation of data collection forms, procedural manuals, and other documents required for project implementation and evaluation. Directs the development of computerized methods for monitoring and reporting on the study.
7. Represents the project to all related community agencies and organizations, serving as the study's liaison, spokesperson, and representative.
8. Depending on the candidate's research skills and interests, our projects provide opportunities for analysis of study data and the writing of scientific papers for publication.
