At Reorg, we are actively looking for a skilled Database Administrator to join our dynamic Platform team. This role is integral to our success, demanding a wealth of expertise in managing cloud-based databases, particularly Postgres and/or MySQL. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in the support and scalability of our Reorg products. With a focus on collaboration, this individual will engage with multiple engineering teams, contributing to the seamless integration of database solutions for the Reorg products.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy and configure PostgreSQL and MySQL in cloud-based environments, ensuring adherence to best practices. Optimize database configurations for performance and scalability.
  • Set up monitoring tools to track the health and performance of database instances. Configure alerts for potential issues.
  • Develop and maintain robust backup and recovery strategies using cloud-native tools. Conduct regular testing of cloud-based backups and refine strategies as needed.
  • Set up and manage replication for high availability and fault tolerance. Implement streaming replication or logical replication depending on the requirements.
  • Implement and manage cloud-native security measures, including identity and access management, encryption, and compliance controls. Stay current with cloud provider security updates and apply patches promptly.
  • Collaborate with development teams to design and optimize database structures. Review and recommend improvements to existing database designs. Identify and optimize slow queries, indexes, and system resource utilization.
  • Plan and execute database upgrades ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity. Stay informed about the latest cloud database releases and patches, applying updates as necessary.
  • Monitor database growth and performance trends to anticipate and address capacity requirements. Provide recommendations for resource scaling or configuration adjustments proactively for cost optimizations.
  • Develop and maintain scripts for automating routine database maintenance tasks.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, providing expertise on database solutions.
  • Document database configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Develop and test disaster recovery plans ensuring business continuity. Coordinate and conduct regular disaster recovery drills.
  • Investigate and resolve database-related incidents and issues promptly. Actively participate in the Incident Management process.
  • Provide on-call support for production databases.
  • Share expertise and knowledge with team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience
  • 6+ years of DBA experience with at least 4 years of Postgres administration
  • 3+ years of cloud-based DBA experience
  • Experience with large volume OLTP database systems
  • Solid knowledge of Linux commands and shell scripting
  • Solid understanding of relational database systems
  • Solid understanding of database security best practices
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Experience with IaC tools like Terraform is a plus
  • Experience with configuration management tools like Saltstack, Ansible, Chef is a plus
  • Experience with SOC2 compliance is a plus
