Medical Assistant I Scribe - Dermatology

Responsible for assisting physicians and nursing staff with patient care. Responsible for appointment scheduling and chart management. Performs delegated medical tasks and may perform clerical duties. Where the electronic system is in use, this position will utilize the system as documented in the department and/or FPI standard operating procedure and process; and other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
- Medical Assistant certification required
- Demonstrated skill in venipuncture
- One to two years medical assistance and medical office experience preferred
- CPR certification is required
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Gathers and documents brief history and chief complaint in the medical record.
2. Follows established guidelines to obtain necessary testing based on the chief complaint prior to the exam. Prepares patient for examination by the health care provider.
3. Performs routine office testing, including but not limited to; urinalysis, vision testing, hearing screening, pulmonary function testing, temperature, pulse and blood pressure.
4. Assists provider with procedures and minor surgical procedures.
5. Obtains necessary blood and urine specimens.
6. Administers and documents injections and other medications given.
7. Assists provider with clarification of patient instruction such as, diagnostic test preparation, and medication administration.
8. Exhibits compassion and empathy for all patients and families at all times.
9. Sterilizes all reusable instruments and equipment as needed.
10. Maintains necessary supplies in clinical area.
