The Role
We are seeking a creative, motivated Senior Director of Facilities and Operations for Generate Biomedicines. This senior leader will be responsible for all facets of facility and laboratory operations to ensure a safe, clean and efficient environment for Generate Biomedicines and its employees. They will have full responsibility for ensuring Generate thrives in its new facilities in Somerville and Andover, and is well prepared for future expansion. This individual will lead a team of facilities and laboratory managers and technicians and should have direct experience managing offices, laboratories, space constraints and expansions, vendors and teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
Facilities Management and Capital Projects
- Develop and own a strategic facilities plan
- Assist with lab design and liaise with the architecture and construction firms
- Manage Generate's existing footprint and potential expansion into future facilities
- Interface with landlord’s asset management team
- Guide the Laboratory Operations / Laboratory Services team in growing laboratory support services, ensuring high quality and reliable support for Generate Biomedicines research and development teams. This includes planning and executing capital and expense investments, procurement in laboratory infrastructure, laboratory equipment, equipment maintenance and calibration contracts
- Develop and execute against strategic facilities plan, proactively addressing future space constraints, and operational challenges, managing Generate Biomedicines transitions to future locations
Lab and Office Operations
- Direct and manage a team of Operations and Facilities personnel, and contracted services
- Oversee office management
- Full responsibility for the safe, clean and efficient operation of the facility; act as QA/QC for Facility and Lab Ops services for the space.
- Manage comprehensive Environmental, Health & Safety programs and processes, including hazardous materials management
- Develop positive working relationships and act as point-of-contact for 3rd-party facility/lab management team (maintenance technicians, shipping & receiving, etc.)
- Lead the day-to-day Site Operations (Workplace, Laboratory and Facilities functions), CAPEX and OPEX budgeting, resource prioritization, develop scope of projects, user requirements, specifications, create requests for proposals (RFP’s), evaluate statement of work and cost proposals, contracts, project management requirements
- Coordinate the development, implementation, and preservation of key standard operating procedures and policies appropriate for operations performed cross-functionally. This includes preventative, condition-based and on-demand maintenance programs.
- Participate in company risk prioritization and management processes, develop, and implement business continuity planning for laboratory and office (including any evolution of COVID-19 plans in collaboration with the Leadership Team)
- Maintain local and state government documentation requirements relating to facilities and operations, ensure compliance with all applicable health and safety laws and regulations, Maintain all pertinent permitting
- Support the development of workplace management strategies, including meeting / conference room support, desk management, seating plans, space management, visitor management, security access control, parking, food, drink, office supplies, and shipping and receiving support
