The Opportunity
This position, Senior Manager Tooling Engineer, works on site daily of our San Diego, CA location in the Infectious Diseases Division. We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision-making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Every day, more than 10 million tests are run on Abbott’s diagnostics instruments, providing lab results for millions of people.
If hired, you’ll manages the planning and completion of injection molding engineering projects, including the design and development of consumables, molding and packaging processes, labeling processes, documentation, tooling, and fixtures to enhance productivity and product quality.
What You’ll Work On
Develop and implement short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure process development and manufacturing systems are in place to meet business objectives
Develop formal project plans to include the proposed technical approach, budget, and key milestone completion dates for all assigned projects
Work cross-functionally with Finance R&D, Quality, Clinical, Regulatory and other departments as needed to ensure effective new product transitions into production
Work with Production and Continuous Improvement functions to develop effective manufacturing processes capable of meeting quality, cost and supply chain objectives
Prepare high level technical reports, analysis, recommendations and presentations reflecting the status and results of projects
Develop, implement, train and monitor effectiveness of engineering systems and procedures to ensure compliance to FDA, GMP and all other applicable agency regulations
Anticipate and resolve highest level issues and conflicts that could impact operations success
Ensure a safe work environment consistent with OSHA requirements and Abbott policies
Prepare departmental budgets and control expenditures to stay within spending limits.
May participate in New Business Development activities as they present themselves
Maintains a safe and professional work environment.
Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.
Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
Required Qualifications
Progressive experience in leadership positions in manufacturing or process development engineering.
Bachelor's Degree in engineering an equivalent combination of education and work experience
Minimum 12 years or more of experience in a similar role.
