Job Description Qualifications:

Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS), Space Mission Systems is seeking a lead or senior Satellite Mission Operations (MO) Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead to support the team in El Segundo, CA. The Space Mission Systems Team creates the next generation products and services for the BDS business unit. We work with customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space.  Our team focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers.  Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and operations and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

The MO IPT lead will be a part of a high-performing team that are immersed in high development projects. As the MO IPT lead, you will execute the integration efforts of the flight operations products team and mission operations team and coordinate with satellite systems engineering and ground organizations. Effort will span ground product development through mission preparation, execution and handover of operations to the customer. This position will include participation in interface working groups, engineering change boards, schedule reviews, and RIO processes, managing system problem reports through their lifecycle, coordinating and logging giver/receiver requests, as well as leading the ground flight operations product development team and mission operations development team.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to lead activities to plan, design, develop and verify complex lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions
  • Delivery high quality products that meet customer and Boeing internal requirements.
  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports.
  • Leads evaluation of customer/operational needs to define flight operations system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces
  • Leads analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture and to ensure design for operability
  • Leads demonstration of flight operations products compliance to program requirements at reviews & in verification/validation artifacts.
  • Leads analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success
  • Leads RFP and ECP requests from customer regarding to future mission ground products and operations changes
  • Identify innovation opportunities and demonstrate lean execution.
  • Meet budget targets with identified risk impacts and implement flight operations schedule through effective management of program funds and meet all delivery dates.
  • Provide timely status and financial inputs to staff, program & functional leadership.
  • Responsible for the readiness, launch day & mission ops phase of the program. Key tech work, milestones/deliverables include: Gate closures, Mission Design Review (MDR) preparation, rehearsals, Mission Readiness Review (MRR), execution of all mission phases through handover to customer operation.   
  • Train/Coach team members in best practices and technical execution.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location. 

Work Authorization:

This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

Special Program Access or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 3+ years of experience working with satellite operations

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 10 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Master’s degree from an accredited course of
