Director of Engineering, Spending

About the role

Chime is looking for an engineering leader to help manage and guide our Banking Products teams within the Spending organization. Our mission is to make access to your money fast, reliable, and easy by building software to power features like Instant Transfers, Mobile Check Deposit, and Direct Deposits – through integrations between third parties, our core applications, and dedicated money movement service.

The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $216,800 and up to $307,100. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.

In this role, you can expect to

• Build, lead, and grow high-caliber teams of software engineers and managers to solve these problems while being connected to the technology and architecture. Encourage innovation and foster an environment of continuous improvement. Establish a sense of urgency and direction, set expectations with team and individuals.
• Ability and experience with navigating ambiguity and change. Keep teams motivated while being able to iterate rapidly.
• Work closely with our engineering leaders to identify bottlenecks in our existing software infrastructure and guide the team through a path forward to improve and scale it. Ensure that technical decisions support our quality, performance, scalability, reliability, availability, and security goals.
• Support the team to design, develop, test, and scale new and existing Spending products.
• Establish team objectives in alignment with business goals. Work very closely with Product Management leadership to launch solutions for our members.
• Contribute to overall engineering initiatives as a member of Chime’s engineering leadership team.

To thrive in this role, you have

• Experience as a software engineer and an effective people manager including experience managing managers across multiple teams.
• Interest in pushing the envelope to explore new technologies and architectures that can have a large return on investment.
• An appetite for learning and diving into the deepest levels of how things work.
• A desire to make a huge difference at a growing start-up.
• The ability to motivate a team through delivery on aggressive schedules and goals.
• Comfort guiding teams using our technology stack includes: Ruby on Rails, MySQL, and Service Oriented Architectures.
• Consumer-oriented product-focused engineering team leadership.
