Brown & Brown Risk Solutions, formerly known as Beecher Carlson, is looking for a Senior Accountant to join the Captive practice in New York.

As a Senior Accountant, you will manage the day-to-day accounting and financial activities of a portfolio of captive insurance companies acting as focal contact person with senior management and our clients, with an opportunity to develop strategic and consulting skills. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform all accounting necessary for maintaining captive clients, including preparing all general ledgers, reconciliations and customized financial and managerial reports.  
  • Prepare monthly financial statement package and management review for a group of captive clients, in accordance with GAAP, SAP and modified GAAP. 
  • Prepare regulatory filings, premium tax returns and NAIC Blank Forms for captive insurance companies including Risk Retention Groups.
  • Give presentations at client, shareholder, and/or Board of Director meetings to review financial information. 
  • Responsible for regulatory interfacing with each captive domicile – onshore and offshore.  Domiciles may include but are not limited to District of Columbia, Vermont, Hawaii, Cayman Islands, Bermuda, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Utah, Tennessee or Texas.
  • Work with all service providers including but not limited to auditors, actuarial, tax authorities, regulators, investment professionals, and bankers; acting as a point person to organize and coordinate all matters to effectively manage captive clients.
  • Responsible for substantive audit review and compliance testing, involving drafting and reviewing of audit reports and obtaining clean audit opinions.
  • Provide advice on compliance requirements, investment regulations and current accounting developments that affect clients.
  • Monitor cash flow, prepare budgets and ad hoc reports.
  • Work with multiple accounting and reporting systems, including Acumatica, MAS 500, BizNet, Velixo and Wings to prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP, SAP and modified GAAP.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • 5-10  years’ experience in position with similar duties
  • Ability to use initiative and good judgment in accomplishing tasks with minimal errors/Must possess critical thinking skills.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships and to function in a team environment. 
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in use of personal computers, including data entry, word processing and spread sheet applications. Proficient with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel.

The targeted salary range for this position is $80,000 - $105,000.
