Job Description

The Software Engineer II is an early- to mid-career contributor that has a combination of formal education and experience in the software engineering field. They are responsible for the research, design, development, analysis, testing, and implementation of software operating or application systems. They communicate project information to client, project manager, or other design personnel working on projects. They maintain good working relationships with clients and staff. They write and maintain complete documentation. They support team members and ensure established goals and deadlines are met. They keep management informed of status and significant problems.

Job Description 

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Act as a contributing member in an assigned area within software engineering. 

  • Maintain accountability for service quality in the assigned area and for successful on-time, on-budget, and on-scope delivery of assigned projects. 

  • Demonstrate competence in general software engineering and at least one sub-discipline, such as databases, middleware, or UI development. 

  • Contribute formally and informally to the effectiveness of the team. 

  • Participate in knowledge-transfer activities to increase expertise and contribution. 

  • Speak authoritatively and accurately about questions related to the assigned area of ownership. 

  • Contribute directly to rapid identification of system problems, minimizing time to restoration of services. 

  • Apply strategies and tools to plan and execute testing approaches that maximize quality while minimizing costs. 

  • Balance quality and delivery timelines by applying the “good enough” principle appropriately. 

  • Interpret functional, non-functional, and implied requirements into designs and code that meet specifications.
