Senior Scientist, Experimental Biology
Deep OriginAbout the role
Deep Origin is a biotechnology company accelerating drug discovery through AI-powered computational tools. Our platforms simplify R&D, simulate biology, and empower scientists to solve diseases and extend healthspan. We are building a world-class experimental biology team to complement our AI and chemistry platforms—bringing mechanistic understanding to the forefront of discovery.
We are looking to recruit a Senior Scientist who possesses a rich background in life sciences experimentation, such as CRISPR screening, molecular and synthetic biology. You will design and execute pioneering synthetic biology screens in collaboration with Deep Origin’s Cellular Simulation Team to generate data to build and validate whole-cell models and explore candidate targets identified through modeling. As our first experimentalist, you will design and execute high-precision experiments, independently design and manage our lab, manage the vendors for our lab, and progressively build a proficient team to fast-track the development of whole-cell models and their application.
Responsibilities:
- Design and execute experiments, such as mammalian cell culture, CRISPR screening, omic measurements, and sequencing.
- As our first experimentalist, independently manage the lab, its equipment, and progressively build a proficient team.
- Steer the design and evolution of our lab to align with our escalating experimental capabilities.
- Nurture relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely procurement and management of lab consumables and equipment.
- Partner with our Cellular Simulations Team to strategize experiments and deliver data.
- Conceptualize and orchestrate experiments integral to the development of whole-cell models.
- Maintain in-house subject matter expertise in biology and stay abreast with the latest advancements and tools in the field.
Requirements
- PhD in bioengineering, biotechnology, molecular biology, cancer biology, cell biology or systems biology.
- 2 or more years of postdoctoral or industry experience in mammalian cell culture, CRISPR screening, and/or molecular biology.
- Proven track record in pioneering new assays, managing time-critical projects, and designing and executing large-scale experiments.
- Exceptional ability to present data effectively.
- Team-oriented with a proven ability to engage in cross-functional collaborations.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic startup environment, filled with uncertainty and new challenges, requiring resourcefulness and adaptability.
- Ability to proactively anticipate problems and resolve challenges independently.
- Capability to independently manage the lab as our inaugural experimentalist and build an experimental team.
Nice to have:
- Developing Novel screening methods for high-medium throughput screening.
- Experience in single-cell RNA sequencing, live-cell high-resolution microscopy, and/or multi-omics measurements.
- Experience with neuroscience and/or CAR-T research
- Interest in systems biology approaches and use of dynamical modeling.
