JOB SUMMARY: Perform safe and efficient transportation of students on assigned routes. Train, evaluate, and develop bus drivers and bus assistants to maintain skills and service quality. Ensure compliance with transportation standards through instruction, performance monitoring, and documentation. Balance daily route driving with administrative duties, evaluations, and coordination to deliver consistent, safe student transportation services.

Job Task Descriptions Frequency Percentage of Time 1. Safely and efficiently operate a school bus over assigned routes while maintaining a high standard of student care and compliance with transportation regulations. Complete administrative and operational tasks during non-driving hours to support departmental efficiency and service continuity. Daily 50% 2. Conduct comprehensive annual pre-trip inspections and ride-along evaluations to ensure vehicle safety and driver readiness. Daily 10% 3. Assess and verify the functionality of special needs equipment through required annual testing and evaluations. Daily 10% 4. Deliver ongoing training, coaching, and performance assessments for bus drivers and bus assistants to reinforce safety, consistency, and professional growth. Daily 5% 5. Guide and mentor new bus driver and bus assistant trainees through structured route training and hands-on learning experiences. Daily 20% 6. Perform other duties as assigned or requested. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The minimum prerequisites of formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other criteria that a candidate must fulfill to be considered for a position. It is essential that certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, and trainings are fulfilled, valid, and not expired.

  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
  • High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
  • Two (2) years of school bus driving experience 
  • Colorado driver’s license
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with both a "P" (passenger) and "S" (school bus) endorsement
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certification
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must meet insurability requirements of the Colorado School District Self-Insurance Pool
  • Must pass Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Colorado Department of Education screenings
