Department Summary

The Department of Architecture is part of the School of Architecture & Environment within the College of Design at the University of Oregon, an Association of American Universities member and tier-one research institution in the Pacific Northwest that is ranked “highest research activity” by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. The Department of Architecture offers fully accredited graduate and undergraduate professional degrees in architecture, a master of science, concurrent master’s degrees, and a Ph.D. in architecture.

The School of Architecture & Environment main campus and the architecture, landscape architecture, and interior architecture departments are in Eugene, Oregon. The Department of Architecture Portland Program is located in Portland, Oregon. Both Portland and Eugene are socially progressive, bike-friendly, and family-friendly cities with ambitious goals for carbon emissions reduction and for community well-being. The University of Oregon has an active Native American Student Union centered at the Many Nations Longhouse. Position Summary

The Architecture Department at the University of Oregon invites applications for a Professor of Practice as a Visiting or Career Instructor. This is a part- or full-time position on the Eugene campus with a focus on teaching excellence in design studio and in professional practice pedagogy. The position includes teaching 4-5 courses (part time) to 8-9 courses (full time) during the fall, winter, and spring terms, and working collaboratively with colleagues to advance design studio pedagogy and engagement with design and professional practice.

We particularly invite applications from candidates who have the potential to deliver visionary design studio and subject area teaching that is informed by an active creative practice and by broad engagement with current discourses on topics in design processes, design practices, and/or community engagement. Candidates should demonstrate excellence and/or visionary innovation in design practice in architecture or at the intersection of architecture and another related discipline. Candidates should be positioned to support a diverse student body to develop the values, knowledge, skills, and practices they need to create better architecture and environments that resonate with people and their cultural, physical, and ecological worlds.

• A terminal degree in Architecture or related discipline
• Previous teaching and/or creative practice experience

Associate Professor (Visiting):
• A terminal degree in Architecture or related discipline
