Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

$120,400.00 - $198,700.00

What Is the Opportunity?

Under general direction and as a member of the local management team, this position is responsible for product quality and performance of the Specialty severity claim team handling serious and complex commercial lines and personal liability claims. Provide direction and technical guidance through a continuous process of management involvement and frequent claim file review and extensive litigation management. Serve as a field representative for the Home Office Specialty product area, as requested. Reinforce the Specialty Vision, Strategies, and Objectives through word and action. Select, lead, mentor, performance manage and develop staff. This job manages staff.

What Will You Do?

  • CLAIM HANDLING:
  • Leads a team of 5 to 8 MCSs and STSs who are each responsible for handling severe and/or complex claims, with the full damage value (without regard to coverage or liability defenses) of each inventory exceeding multi-million dollars, making the SUM ultimately responsible for an inventory with a full damage value well into the hundreds of millions.
  • Provide Compelling Claim Services:
  • Employ proper claim handling techniques to protect the integrity of our brand and providing consistent service quality and streamlined processes to add value for our customers.
  • Review new notices, ensuring claims are assigned to staff with appropriate skill sets.
  • Conduct quality file reviews per office/ best practices guidelines.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate reserves.
  • LEADERSHIP:
  • Attract, Retain and Develop World Class Talent:
  • Leads a team of 5 to 8 MCSs and STSs who are each responsible for handling severe and/or complex claims, with the full damage value (without regard to coverage or liability defenses) of each inventory exceeding multi-million dollars, making the SUM ultimately responsible for an inventory with a full damage value well into the hundreds of millions.
  • Proactive recruitment of talent; work with management to establish and implement a strategic staffing strategy. Effective orientation and on-boarding.
  • Manage staff performance; implement strategies and plans to address staff development; identify and address training needs on an ongoing basis; provide frequent performance feedback.
  • Work with management to develop and implement effective training, performance development and succession planning.
  • Effective retention planning; proactively manage and respond to turnover.
  • Provide face-to-face and written guidance to ensure effectiveness, engagement, accuracy and efficiency.
  • Effectively utilize reward system to distinguish top performers and significant achievements.
  • Ensure timely notification to Home Office for cases that meet triggers required in the Large Loss Guidelines Establish/ follow up on file reviews per diary instructions, conducting additional reviews (i.e. 180, 360 day reviews), as necessary.
  • PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT:
  • Develop and implement strategies and initiatives to improve file quality, expense management, investigations, subrogation, structured settlement, and litigation management.
  • COMMUNICATION/INFLUENCE:
  • Oversee the development and employment of creative resolution strategies for complex files effectively utilizing all appropriate resources.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, business partners, customers, agents, regulatory agencies and others to achieve organizational goals and create better outcomes.
