Job Description Summary:
A Pharmacy Technician Intern has not yet passed all licensing examinations and other registration criteria necessary for licensure as a registered pharmacy technician in the state(s) of the Option Care location of employment.A Pharmacy Technician Intern assists the pharmacist with providing safe and appropriate pharmacy services to Option Care patients in accordance with the policies and procedures of Option Care, the state’s professional standards, and other regulatory entities. The Pharmacy Technician Intern always works under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist and participates in the functions of a pharmacist including the coordination of patient care services, monitoring patient progress toward goals, , product preparation, and packing and delivery of products and services to Option Care patients. Registrations and allowable duties prior to pharmacy technician licensure can be designated differently in different states and must be adhered to at all times.

Job Responsibilities (listed in order of importance and/or time spent)
- Assists continuity of pharmaceutical care to and from the home and other patient-care settings. Uses a systematic procedure to communicate pertinent patient information to and from the home and other patientcare settings. Prepares medications using appropriate techniques and following Option Care policies and procedures. Accurately calibrates equipment. Prepares medications so they are appropriately concentrated, without incompatibilities, stable, and appropriately stored. Adheres to appropriate safety and quality assurance practices. Prepares labels that conform to the organization's policies and procedures. Complies with policies regarding the perpetual inventory systems for schedule II narcotics, controlled substances and other medications subject to diversion.
- Assists in the use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of medication administration equipment and medication related equipment used in the management of home care patients. Participates in the process for assessing, managing, and reporting medication-related incidents and equipment error and/or failures. Accurately completes SafetyPoint occurrence reporting documents according to the Option Care policy. Monitors and reports discrepancies in perpetual inventory systems for schedule II narcotics and other medications subject to diversion.
- Assists the pharmacist with the preparation and dispensing of medications and supplies using appropriate techniques and following Option Care Health policies and procedures. Accurately calibrates equipment. Assists with recording and maintaining pharmacy temperature and cleaning logs. Ensures that all pharmacy surfaces, laminar flow hoods and clean room are cleaned per Option Care policy. Understands and can perform basic pharmaceutical calculations to obtain correct doses of medications. Prepares medications under the supervision of a pharmacist so they are accurately compounded. Ensures that a licensed pharmacist properly checks all compounding and packing. Adheres to appropriate safety and quality assurance practices. Complies with state and federal laws.
- Contacts patients and/or caregivers to schedule a delivery and determine supply needs; Picks and packs medical supplies to fill patient orders; accurately dispenses products in the computer system to generate a delivery ticket and/or prescription labels.
