Position Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Director, Strategy and Operations, the Associate Director, Talent and Organizational effectiveness will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing strategic talent development initiatives and leading organizational change efforts across Administration and Finance. The incumbent is responsible for supporting the transition to a culture of continuous improvement and enhanced service delivery. The Associate Director partners with leadership to implement succession plans, optimize resources, and improve service delivery in a resource-constrained environment. The position oversees HR functions for several smaller units within Administration and Finance which do not have dedicated HR staff and manages a team of professionals.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Build strong relationships with senior leaders, Human Resources professionals and managers within Administration and Finance units to drive talent and change initiatives that align with the strategic objectives.
- Develop and oversee implementation of talent development strategies to ensure the continuous growth and readiness of high-potential employees across Administration and Finance.
- Establish a robust succession plan for senior leadership roles, ensuring the University is prepared for leadership transitions and critical role vacancies.
- Work closely with unit heads and their human resources professionals to identify key competencies and support leadership development and capability building across all levels by way of tools including but not limited to competency assessments, workshops, trainings and development of programs.
- Identify critical retention risks and develop plans to mitigate turnover in key roles.
- In collaboration with central Human Resources, implement retention practices to address the unique challenges of a resource-constrained environment, promote employee engagement and long-term satisfaction.
- Analyze workforce data and trends to facilitate data-driven decisions on staffing needs, position management, and restructuring initiatives.
- Recommend strategies and initiatives to enhance overall human resources performance, ensuring that constrained resources are allocated to the highest priorities.
- Facilitate organizational change initiatives to promote a culture of continuous improvement and enhanced service delivery.
- Partner with unit heads to assess the impact of change and provide tools that support successful adoption and integration of change initiatives.
- Work with Organizational Development in Human Resources and external providers to deliver training as required across Administration and Finance.
- Provide senior professional expertise to units that do not have dedicated human resources support.
- Oversee HR function of the OVPAF and partners with related units to provide strategic guidance and support on HR-related matters.
- Manage a team of professional staff.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
- Experience with University HR policies and collective agreements is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience working with information of a sensitive and confidential nature.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Result-oriented with excellent interpersonal to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders at all levels.
- Client focused and proven attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong supervisory, coaching, and leadership skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Workday to pull reports and effectively track and manage information.
- CRHA/CHRP designation is a strong asset.
- Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at level 4 on a scale of 0-4.
