FISD is committed to providing exceptional food service in educational settings. We are seeking a dynamic and growth-minded Chef Manager to oversee culinary operations at KLA Academy, a private K-5 school in Miami, FL. This position will manage all aspects of the food service operation, ensuring the highest standards of quality, sustainability, and student satisfaction.

As the Chef Manager at KLA Academy, you will be responsible for the overall success of the culinary and food service operation. This includes menu development, food preparation, inventory control, ordering, and ensuring that meals meet both the nutritional needs of students and the operational goals of the school. You will also collaborate with school staff, maintain budget control, and prioritize sustainability through sourcing and utilizing local food products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the full culinary management of the food service operation, ensuring the efficient preparation and delivery of meals.
  • Manage inventory, ordering, and receiving of food and supplies.
  • Develop and execute menus that are both nutritious and appealing to students, incorporating local food products where possible.
  • Monitor food cost controls and ensure compliance with budget and financial goals.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of food safety and sanitation protocols, including HACCP procedures.
  • Ensure the quality of food production, presentation, and service.
  • Lead a team in a way that fosters a positive and collaborative environment.
  • Implement sustainability practices to minimize waste and promote eco-friendly initiatives.
  • Provide leadership in catering services for special school events, camps, and other activities.
  • Ensure that food service meets the expectations and satisfaction of students, faculty, and parents.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least three years of culinary management experience in contract food service, fine dining, education setting or restaurant settings with a strong background in inventory and purchasing control.
  • Knowledge of P&L accountability and contract-managed services.
  • Expertise in menu development, cost controls, and sourcing local food products.
  • Strong knowledge of food trends, catering, food safety, and presentation.
  • Experience with exposition cooking is a must.
  • ServSafe certification is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of HACCP standards.
  • A passion for sustainability and using local ingredients to support a farm-to-table approach.
  • Spanish-speaking skills are a plus to better engage with the community.
