Overview
The Prevention/Supportive Measures Specialist (Prevention Specialist) will support the implementation of USU's student, faculty, and staff trainings, programs, and activities to prevent and support individuals who have experienced sexual misconduct and discrimination on the USU-Eastern campus. This position will use a public health and strategic, proactive, and collaborative approach to implement and strengthen USU's sexual misconduct and discrimination prevention efforts in order to promote the health and safety of USU-Eastern's students, faculty, and staff. The Prevention Specialist will also advise a diverse population of individuals who have experienced sexual misconduct or discrimination, or who are involved in a Title IX investigation. The Prevention Specialist will be responsible for using trauma-informed principles while working to implement university supportive measures.
The Prevention Specialist may be required to work outside of regular business hours in order to facilitate trainings and programs and some travel from the USU-Eastern campus to other USU campuses may be required.
Responsibilities
Program Development and Management (65%)
- Coordinates, develops, and implements USU's bystander intervention training (Upstanding) to USU-Eastern students, staff, and faculty.
- Supports compliance with USU's hard mandate for requiring all incoming students, continuing students, transfer students, and students returning from a leave of absence to complete sexual misconduct prevention training.
- Supports compliance with USU's employee sexual misconduct prevention training requirement.
- Facilitates other sexual misconduct prevention training for students, faculty, and staff, addressing topics such as consent, healthy relationships, and boundary setting.
- Supports USU's discrimination prevention efforts, such as through facilitating discrimination prevention training for students, faculty, and staff.
- Facilitates tracking of those who have received sexual misconduct and discrimination prevention training.
- Supports implementation of a communications plan to reinforce sexual misconduct prevention efforts that targets a diverse group of students (first-year students, student-athletes, fraternity and sorority life members, student leaders, international students, etc.).
- Supports and helps supervise student volunteers, interns, and/or staff.
- Supports messaging campaigns as relevant from the University
- Supports implementation of other USU sexual misconduct prevention efforts (Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month)
- Represents the Office of Equity at general campus resource/welcome events
Supportive Measures (30%)
- Uses trauma-informed principles and practices to work with survivors of sexual misconduct or those who have experienced discrimination because of their membership in a protected class.
- Provides supportive measures such as: seeking academic record adjustments, financial aid or scholarship assistance; giving class assignment, quiz, test, and attendance support; seeking classroom schedule changes; arranging tutoring resources; requesting housing adjustments; locating alternative parking arrangements; re-arranging work schedules; and providing other supportive measures as needed.
- Implements supportive measures with students, staff, or faculty involved in sexual misconduct or discrimination investigations.
- Develops relationships with USU-Eastern and Logan campus administration, staff, faculty, academic advisors, the Academic Success Center, Student Affairs, Financial Aid, Scholarship, Registrar, Sexual
- Assault and Anti-Violence Information (SAAVI), Eastern Student Counseling, USU Police, Campus Housing, Campus Recreation, and Campus Parking, and others.
- Maintains supportive measures requests and all other student, faculty, and staff records in compliance with university policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Reports to parties and involved faculty and staff supportive measures taken and track those reports.
- Assists with outreach to faculty, staff, and students, including promoting student self-advocacy, and participating in USU events on and off campus with the goal of sharing information and enhancing prevention efforts.
- Manages student, faculty, and staff issues and answer questions from parties and involved faculty and staff members that arise regarding supportive measures.
- Maintains information and statistics on supportive measures provided by the office.
- Exercises effective decision-making and consult with supervisors as needed.
