Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the V.P. Tissue Machines & Air Systems, the Engineer will travel to tissue mills and equipment sub-vendors, mainly in the US and Canada, on as-needed basis.
The Engineer shall perform the following tasks as a technical product resource related to tissue machine process air systems and tissue drying systems:
- lead & perform in-field process and equipment inspections, performance surveys, and operational troubleshooting of process air systems and tissue drying systems.
- lead & perform in-field energy analysis and optimization of processes related to gas, steam and electrical systems associated with the process air systems and tissue drying systems.
- provide advice and recommendations to optimize system operation, performance, maintainability and safety.
- assist with installation supervision services in the field, commissioning and startup of equipment, process controls & process instrumentation.
- provide training for customer personnel on equipment & process operation & maintenance.
- troubleshoot and assist with commissioning and start-up of fans, burners, combustion systems and associated equipment related to tissue process air systems and tissue drying systems.
- assist in the preparation of equipment and process application engineering, as well as budget and firm proposals.
- plan and monitor manpower requirements for assigned activities.
- ensure conformance to established procedures within assigned projects.
- The Engineer will work with equipment and processes related to the tissue-making industry. Typical equipment includes industrial air systems ductwork, fans, burners, dampers, expansion & articulating joints, heat recovery equipment (air/air, air/water heat exchangers), drying equipment such as yankee hoods, through drying hoods, mist removal systems, dust removal systems, sheet run equipment, etc.
- When managing a project, the Engineer will be asked to participate in the following tasks: project meetings; design meetings with customers, consultants or installation contractors; field measurements; field installation supervision of supplied equipment; preparation of purchasing requirements; review and approval of drawings and applicable design documentation; inspections of designed equipment at supplier facilities & preparation of inspection reports; project budget monitoring and reporting; project schedule preparation, monitoring and reporting.
To be able to execute these tasks, the Engineer:
- must be able to communicate effectively to all levels within an organization.
- must have technical process and product experience to be able to troubleshoot the equipment and operations.
- must be comfortable working in a high-pressure environment, where machine downtime must be minimized.
- must be familiar with general assembly drawings, detail drawings, erection drawings, fabrication drawings, process flow schematics, P&I drawings, etc.
- must be familiar with project management tasks.
- must be able to travel (passport, driver’s license), sometimes with short notice.
- must have the physical endurance required to execute the tasks.
- is expected to issue professionally written reports in a timely manner.
- must be able to communicate effectively with customers and other project team members.
- must demonstrate good judgment, self-confidence & information seeking skills, and report back to the organization.
- is expected to work as a team player in cooperation with other company personnel such as Project Managers, Designers, Engineering resources, and Purchasing and Traffic personnel.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Bachelor of Engineering and any progressive experience in a related engineering position. Any related experience in the tissue industry, field service, startup & commissioning of similar process equipment would be valuable assets.
- Ability to travel to tissue mills and to vendors throughout North America.
- The Engineer must have the ability to communicate effectively in English (verbal & written), since projects are based mostly in the United States or Latin American countries (business activities executed in English
