Project Overview:
Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington State. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.
The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities – Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory – as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.
Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.
Job Summary:
Bechtel’s Waste Treatment Plant (WTP) Project is currently seeking a Deskside Support Lead to join the Plant IS&T team. Working within a discipline, plans and conducts independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of information technology techniques, procedures and criteria in areas including network/telecommunications, information security, information technology engineering, customer support, or infrastructure operations. Devises new approaches to problems encountered to provide solutions to the customer. Supports discipline in the performance of complex and demanding assignments requiring initiative and independent judgment. Provides advice and guidance on technical matters. Performs work that requires the application of a significant range of fundamental principles in a variety of contexts. Demonstrates a systematic, disciplined, and analytical approach to problem solving. As part of normal job duties, employees may be required to be in an on-call status to be able to promptly respond to and address user/customer needs.
Major Responsibilities:
- Supervision of the Plant Deskside Support Team within the Plant IS&T Department.
- Reviews documentation related to deskside support tools and products. Instructs, issues guidelines or references or trains those directly responsible for supporting helpdesk and deskside staff.
- Research methods to integrate deskside tools.
- Keeps abreast of the latest hardware and software standards being approved by the corporate and/or global functional groups.
- Monitors workload of Plant Deskside Support organization. Assigns individuals where needed. Ensures appropriate coverage of workload under variable conditions.
- Maintain and control IT assets for which the Lead is the custodian. Responsible for asset maintenance.
- Develop and provide Plant Deskside workload metrics and report them to management.
- Provide input of Deskside activities, issues and triumphs to daily Plan Of The Day meetings.
- Perform receipt/disposition of Plant IT assets from Procurement.
- Participate in special projects as directed by management.
- Provide training and mentoring to staff when new procedures or processes are introduced.
