WSP is seeking a Construction Manager to join our Construction Management team in Columbia, MD.
Your Impact
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Serve as a Construction Manager to support our Construction Management and Inspection services related to Road and Bridge Projects at MDTA.
- Managing the overall construction of a major road and interchange reconstruction program, which consists of multiple construction contracts ranging in value from $200M to $5M.
- Perform constructability reviews of projects during design phases
- Attending monthly construction contract progress meetings
- Reviewing project RFI’s as needed
- Coordinate with designer of record when construction contract issues arise for resolution and issue of Red Line drawings/specifications if needed
- Reviewing and responding to project correspondence
- Review and negotiation of construction contract changes
- Resolve contractor issues as needed
- Aid in managing overall $1B program budget
- Monitoring staffing levels and needs for the program
- Coordinate with consultants for inspection staffing needs and interview candidates as needed
- Providing monthly program updates to MDTA senior management
- Leading monthly construction coordination meeting with senior program staff
- Provide information to MDTA communications for public outreach during major project phasing changes
- Provide info to MDTA communications for responses to public complaints, as needed
- Consults with technical staff, consultants, contractors and other agencies to expedite the completion of construction projects for highways and bridges.
- Reviews and evaluates construction schedules and recommends adjustments to problems arising during construction.
- Analyzes potential delays and claims, recommending appropriate action.
- Recommends solutions to problems arising during construction.
- Utilizes computer and business software packages to prepare correspondence relating to projects, manage project workflow and maintain project records.
- Work effectively with others.
- Work closely with others team members, along with personnel from utilities, state, local, and federal agencies.
- Demonstrate independent and effective problem solving/decision making.
Who You Are
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering or equivalent
- 10 years’ experience in Roadway and Bridge construction.
- Experience in field inspection, or construction supervision of civil works projects (earthwork, roads, utilities, infrastructure, bridges, paving, drainage, etc.).
- Knowledge of construction methods, scheduling and materials.
- Knowledge of inspection methods.
- Ability to deal effectively with contractors, engineers, architects and representatives of utility and government agencies.
- Supervisory ability.
- Working knowledge of state and federal safety, environment guidelines and regulations.
- Prior experience with MDOT SHA or MDTA is desired
- Must have good verbal and written communication and organizational skills
- Must be fluent in both written and spoken English.

Compensation:
Expected Salary: $152,100-187,200/year
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
