Job Description

Dewberry is currently seeking a Staff Environmental/Civil Engineer for our Northeast Environmental Business unit based out of Parsippany, NJ. The position will perform a variety of environmental engineering tasks in support of navigation channel maintenance dredging operations including  beneficial use, coastal restoration, stormwater management, resiliency planning, and environmental permitting in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.  Responsibilities will include: preparation of plans and specifications for dredging, analysis of sediment management options, and hydraulic analysis.

 

The Staff Environmental/Civil Engineer must be flexible, client focused and capable of working independently under the supervision of project managers. The work required is diverse and ranges from general field support during construction and soil/groundwater sampling to technical work that requires strong communication skills and knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access and Adobe Acrobat. Knowledge of AutoCAD, Microstation and/or ArcGIS software products required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates tasks with engineers, technicians or administrative staff.
  • Interaction with the client in the field, at meetings, and on conference calls
  • Work with design team across multiple offices and multiple disciplines to generate detailed design documents and construction plans. 
  • Meets project, client and regulatory deadlines.
  • Communicates effectively with clients, coworkers, sub consultants, and county/agency review staff.
  • Composes technical reports, memorandums and other written communication.
  • Handles multiple concurrent projects.

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • BS in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience
  • EIT, or in the process of obtaining. 
  • OSHA 40-hr certification
  • Responsible for field sampling and contractor oversight at locations in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
  • Responsible for preparation of plans and specs, and supporting calculations/analysis in collaboration with survey data
  • Experience using ArcGIS and AutoCAD or similar programs.
  • Knowledge/experience with OpenFlows, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HydroCAD
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, bridge scour analysis, stormwater management, roadway drainage design for transportation-related projects is strongly desirable.
  • Experience with 2D hydraulic modeling desired
  • Working knowledge of FEMA, USACE, USCG, NJDEP, NYSDEC, NYCDEP and/or PADEP requirements a plus.
