About the role

If you're passionate about being part of a diverse organization that enables a Fortune 100 company with nearly $70 billion in annual sales to deliver innovative business solutions with excellence, then Nationwide's Legal team could be the place for you! At Nationwide®, “on your side” goes beyond just words. Our customers are at the center of everything we do and we’re looking for associates who are passionate about delivering extraordinary care.

Would you thrive in an environment where you can deliver top-quality ethics, quality assurance, training and business operations services to support the business objectives of a Fortune 100 insurance and financial services company? If you are a proven communicator who possesses strong legal and analytical skills, with the ability to continually strive to improve processes, we want to know more about you!

As Lead Attorney, Ethics, Quality Assurance & Business Operations, we'll count on you to provide legal, ethical, quality assurance and operational support and expertise that reflects our dedication to effective collaboration, innovative thinking and a proactive approach to our work.

We'll count on you to support the Nationwide Trial Division (NTD) in the areas of ethical guidance, quality assurance, legal training and business operations. You will identify risks to clients, the organization, and/or the company and present findings to leadership, as well as lead issue remediation and action plan completion. In addition, you'll be the primary Ethics consultant for all NTD cases, providing advice and counsel to leaders and attorneys. You will create, implement and facilitate in-person and online training programs, courses and resources for NTD leaders and associates to address ethical compliance, file handling and case strategy opportunities.

Preference would be for a candidate with approximately eight to ten years of civil litigation or trial experience, along with demonstrated experience in legal ethics, professional responsibility, and attorney training or instruction. Prior leadership experience is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in civil law, with insurance defense experience highly desirable, and will possess specialized knowledge of staff counsel ethics and the Rules of Professional Conduct.

This role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to create and deliver effective presentations to attorneys, staff, and all levels of leadership. The candidate should demonstrate strong judgment and decision-making abilities, with the capacity to assess risk, set priorities, and provide clear, practical guidance in complex situations. Experience developing and leading training programs, supporting audit and quality initiatives, assessing ethical issues arising from the application of technology (e.g., AI) in legal practice, and advising on litigation practices is critical.

The successful candidate will also bring strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to initiate, prioritize, and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously. Digital literacy is required, including proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and virtual meeting platforms. The role requires the ability to lead, influence, and support teams across a decentralized organization, including building relationships, motivating others, and driving consistent, high-quality outcomes across Nationwide Trial Division.

This position can be fully remote for the right candidate.
