Solaris and Linux AdministratorDescription
This position will be primarily responsible for the management of the Oracle Solaris and Linux systems environment at Oxy. In addition to day to day management and operation of the Solaris/ Linux environment which includes administration , access control, troubleshooting, repair, monitoring and updates, the position will also participate in the architecture, engineering, testing, design and configuration of on premises and public cloud solutions, work on or lead team projects in the group including new technologies, upgrades and implementation.
Additional responsibilities include assessing and remediating of Linux issues, automating on premises processes and acting as an escalation point or SME for complex technical issues or troubleshooting. This includes analyzing repetitive and troublesome issues to determine trends, opportunities for proactive action, and recommendations for continuous improvement.
This position will also provide support, mentoring, guidance and technical development (seminars, documentation, instructions) to other IT staff, including working with others one on one and in group settings.
Mandatory Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required, preferably in Computer Science, Engineering or Information Systems
- Working Experience on Oracle T4, T5 and T7 servers hardware installation, operation and troubleshooting
- 5+ years of Oracle Solaris and Linux experience including RedHat and CentOs.
- Working experience on Oracle Solaris Zoning and Linux KVM Virtualization.
- Experience with system patching/RPM repository (e.g. Yum), and RedHat Satellite.
- Experience with identity and access management systems such as Centrify and LDAP
- Experience installing, configuring and supporting infrastructure services such as servers, clusters, networking, TCP/IP, DNS, DFS, and DHCP etc.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues and facilitate improvements based on root cause analysis
- Self-starter with the ability to manage projects and other tasks under minimal supervision.
- Must be a team player, with exceptional communication skills, willing to work with others in the group and the rest of the IT organization
- Ability to identify and implement initiatives to improve the IT environment.
- Conduct research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.
Additional / Preferred Qualifications
- Working experience in Oil & Gas industry.
- Strong development skills and Infrastructure automation through scripting and DevOps CI/CD, such as: PowerShell, Python, Ansible, shell scripting etc.
- Experience with data center environment and servers including blade servers from HP and Dell with shared enterprise storage
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Solarwinds, Nagios or equivalent
- Windows server experience including 2008R2, 2012R2, 2016 and 2019
- Working knowledge of storage technologies (NAS, SAN, ISCSI and Fiber Channel protocols).
- Experience designing and implementing public cloud based solutions in Azure and AWS
- Experience managing VMWare ESXi Hosts with multiple vCenter servers
- Prior experience in multiple IT disciplines - Networking, Servers and Storage Hardware and Windows Server OS.
Other Conditions:
- Ability to work in office environment from either office locations in Greenway or Woodlands or remotely.
- Provide after-hours support and participate in an on-call rotation.
- Ability to travel to remote
