Job Summary

 

Handles, kits, and delivers fabricated, assembled, and purchased materials. Receives fabricated and assembled materials (e.g., from Plate Shop). Pre-stages materials as needed. Operates forklifts (up to 15 ton), carriers, and overhead cranes. Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.

 

Qualifications Standards

 

Previous experience or training is required. Must be able to pass NASSCO’s forklift training. If assigned to the Repair Department; must be HAZMAT certified. Must have the ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and be able to work any shift and overtime, when necessary. Extensive in-yard movement is necessary. Must be able to understand written and verbal instructions, hear warning signals, and read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations, and warnings.

 

Essential Job Tasks

 

  1. Palletize, receive, and kit material.
  2. Locate lost/missing material.
  3. Deliver and move materials to proper work sites, drive Forklifts, and operate overhead cranes or single trollies.
  4. Other tasks may be assigned relevant to the trade.

 

Materials, Tools, Equipment, Work Aids

 

Hand kept records, staple guns, markers, pic tickets, dispatch reports, forklifts, and overhead cranes. Personal protective equipment is required.

 

Physical/Mental Involvement

 

Works in all areas of the shipyard and on board ships requiring repetitive bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, standing, sitting, manual and finger dexterity, reaching, seeing, and hearing. Must be able to occasionally lift or carry items that weigh up to 50 lbs. May also require work with good peripheral vision and depth perception. Must have the ability to multitask. Must maintain general safety awareness by hearing warning signals, reading and comprehending safety instructions, following directions, and avoid hazards commonly present in an employee’s work area.

 

Marginal Job Tasks

 

Perform housekeeping, including sweeping, in all work areas. Attend safety quality and/or process improvement meetings as required.

 

Environmental Factors

 

Exposure to fumes, odors, dust, gases, various climates and temperatures, and low ventilation conditions, all of which may cause discomfort and/or respiratory difficulties. Exposure to constantly moving machines and mechanical parts and high levels of constant noise.

 

 

 

 

PAYSCALE

 

$26.32 - $29.67

 

 

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the hourly range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
