JOB DESCRIPTION:
This is technical work in performing chemical tests employed in controlling discharge of industrial wastewater and assisting wastewater treatment plant operations. Duties include: Receives and prepares samples of wastewater influent and effluent. Assembles instruments and equipment for analytical work. Prepares chemical and bacteriological media, stains, reagents, and test solutions. Conducts tests on samples to ascertain necessary laboratory factors. Cleans, maintains, and stores instruments, supplies and equipment; assists in the maintenance of inventories of supplies. Performs related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or equivalent (GED) and 20 credit hours of college-level courses in Chemistry or Biology is required or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Completion of an Associate’s Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology or a related field is preferred. Knowledge of the basic principles of Chemistry, Biology, and Bacteriology as related to the analysis of wastewater; knowledge of principles, methods, materials and techniques used in wastewater laboratory. Ability to perform assigned tasks according to standard procedures and make accurate observations and records of test results. Ability to maintain required records and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
Salary Range:
$27.55/hr.
