As a Sr. Loss Control Specialist you will provide quality and quantity assurance with emphasis on control of product losses for all movements of crude oil and petroleum products at the site.

- Provide Valero coverage on custody transfer movements at company owned and non-owned locations around the world as well as offshore locations.
- Identify issues that expose Valero to additional costs, and based on this exposure, assumes the authority to take steps to mitigate the exposure. These steps may include anything from appointing additional oversight to suspending cargo operations.
- Minimize losses that may result from errors or inconsistencies in measurement, sampling, or testing of petroleum products by proactive attendance of custody movements for compliance with Valero published industry standards.
- Ensure that API guidelines and the Company's hydrocarbon measurement procedures are followed with full documentation of events.
- Encourage uniform petroleum cargo measurement and inspection practices.
- Develop and implement systems which will alert management in a timely manner to potentially serious inventory and loss problems.
- Communicate with vessel officers and shore representatives to determine if additional oversight is required.
- Verify and confirm volumes with independent inspectors.
- Perform physical measurement and sampling of marine vessels, railcars, trucks, storage tanks and other containers may be required.
- Evaluate the performance of inspection companies and their inspectors.
- Evaluate and reviews industry standards and policies (API/ASTM) to maintain skill set needed to implement improvements to reduce Valero’s exposure to losses.
- Witness custody meter proving and meter prover calibrations. Initiate actions to ensure proper meter factors are determined and properly applied in the final calculation of volumes.
- Reinforce the companies “Life Saving Rules” to all employees and strive to set the example for the Loss Control group.
This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 5+ years of experience in the following areas: Custody transfer measurements, loss control and/or marine/terminal inspection related experience required.
- Able and willing to lift 50 pounds of occasionally and 20 pounds of force frequently required.
- Able and willing to work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays, as needed, required.
- Currently possess or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within specified timeframe required.
- Able and willing to work in-person at the Corpus Christi refinery, required.
Preferred Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience in lab testing, petroleum inspecting, loss control or marine expeditor preferred.
