About the role

Elsevier is expanding its Innovation Design team globally to develop next-generation health solutions. Our team works collaboratively to discover early user needs and design strategic solutions that enhance education and clinical settings. We are looking for a Senior UX Designer II to lead time-bound, cross-functional innovation projects, balancing speed and precision by making informed, data-driven decisions and taking calculated risks. As a Senior UX Designer II, you will spearhead strategic design initiatives across various Elsevier business and product lines. This role requires the ability to quickly gain a deep understanding of user and business needs and the ability to align stakeholders around innovative solutions. You will work in collaboration with cross-functional teams to explore ambiguous challenges and drive the design approach, adopting a "just enough" mentality to foster innovation.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead discovery projects that explore user needs, external market conditions, and internal constraints to identify innovative opportunities.
  • Define and apply appropriate methodologies to address complex business challenges, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.
  • Synthesise insights from user, customer, and business perspectives, translating them into actionable design strategies that align with business objectives.
  • Facilitate workshops and collaborative sessions with cross-functional teams to ideate and refine design concepts based on user feedback and data-driven insights.
  • Coordinate the creation and presentation of project learnings and key updates for diverse audiences, including executive stakeholders.
  • Advocate for user-centred design principles throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring that user needs are prioritized in the decision-making process.
  • Mentor and guide team members in adopting Innovation Design methodologies to foster a culture of continuous improvement

Strategic Design:

  • Master Innovation Design methodologies such as Design Thinking or Lean Startup to uncover user insights and validate product propositions in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with UX Researchers to leverage user insights effectively in the design approach , utilizing data to drive decisions.
  • Contribute to the development of strategic directions for customer-facing products and applications, ensuring alignment with project goals.

Creative Problem Solving:

  • Engage stakeholders in the product innovation process to deliver value and drive growth within established timelines.
  • Challenge conventional thinking with confidence and a forward-looking vision while managing project risks.
  • Foster an environment of collaboration, valuing input from diverse perspectives and recognizing contributions.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in design software (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Axure).
  • Demonstrates understanding of emerging technologies such as Generative AI or Virtual / Augmented Reality.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a UX Designer or Innovation Designer, with a focus on leading cross-functional, time-bound projects and validating user needs and product-market fit.
  • Business literacy and understanding of how large-scale organizations operate
  • Familiarity with Agile and Innovation methodologies, and user-centred design processes.
  • Experience with design software (e.g., Figma, Sketch) is preferred.
