Summary
The Director, NYPA Renewables Business Development will be responsible for origination and development of utility scale renewable energy generation and storage projects (primarily utility scale solar) in support of NYPA’s new expanded authority and New York State targets. The Director will be a strategic market leader, driving origination, innovation, and driving growth through strategic climate change investments for NYPA.
In addition to leading renewable generation growth for NYPA, the Director acts as an industry leader and change agent supporting greater deployment of renewables and transmission in the state, energy storage policies, and overall policy and regulation shifts to support electrification and the changing electric grid system within New York.
Projects span across various technologies and applications including but not limited to renewable energy, energy storage and transmission. Responsibilities include both internal and external stakeholder management, multi-functional collaborations such as with technical functions to develop solutions, and others for negotiations with external collaborators.

Responsibilities
- Identify project opportunities in the areas of Transmission. Renewable Energy and Energy Storage in alignment with NYPA’s strategic plan
- Lead project teams consisting of legal, financial, technical, and other applicable disciplines in evaluating and developing project opportunities.
- Lead the negotiation and development of agreements associated with projects including but not limited to memorandums of understanding, joint development agreements, purchase and sale agreements, leases, and others as applicable.
- Oversee analysis of project investment opportunities, including commercial, technical, operational, financial, risk, and other aspects as applicable.
- Prepare and deliver presentations to senior leadership proposing business opportunities and providing updates on projects.
- Liaise between NYPA leadership and project stakeholders for implementation of projects.
- Liaise with the senior management of external parties including developers, transmission owners, NYISO, and regulatory agencies.
- Participate in industry events, trainings, and conferences as needed

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Track record of projects developed under candidate’s leadership.
- Strong leadership and project management skills with ability to communicate clear objectives, prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and motivate an interdisciplinary team.
- Familiarity with both the operational/technical and commercial/financial aspects of generation, storage, and transmission projects.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the NYISO markets, FERC regulations, and the broader energy industry.
- Advanced communication skills including business writing and oral presentation abilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues and external organizations from various disciplines and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to interact directly and independently with NYPA’s senior management as well as senior management of external organizations and government officials.
- Ability to direct the management of multiple large projects, provide regular updates to senior management and deliver quality work under time constraints.
- Ability to independently build, maintain and evaluate complex financial models.
- Strong analytical, deal analysis, negotiation, and management skills,
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
- Understanding of technical components of transmission, renewable energy generation and energy storage systems and technology.
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a similar technical field.
- Advanced degree in Business Administration or related field, preferred
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in a combination of the following areas: energy/transmission project development, engineering, project management, or contract negotiations
- Minimum 3 years of experience managing employees or leading a team.
- Experience and relationships with utility management, regulatory agencies, government agencies and other industry stakeholders is preferred.
- Power plant development, power markets, or acquisition experience is preferred
