About the role

This position will assist the Finance & Accounting Department (F&AD) with general accounting, financial analysis, budgeting, accounts payable and office clerical tasks, including preparing various excel schedules and financial reports. 

 The Accounting Assistant Intern position will have the opportunity to gain exposure to a variety of accounting duties, financial analysis and reporting functions. 

Essential Duties

Accounting 

  • Assist with the design, preparation and maintenance of excel spreadsheets using mathematical calculations to prepare various accounting reports
  • Perform various accounting tasks such as preparing journal entries and editing system general ledger journal entry descriptions
  • Perform monthly general ledger account certifications; prepare various excel spreadsheets to summarize and balance general ledger activity
  • Other general accounting duties as assigned, including performing general Accounts Payable and Account Analysis tasks, such as inputting invoice information and completing proforma customer statements
  • Perform general clerical responsibilities such as filing, scanning, maintain archive boxes inventory, mailing tasks and other clerical tasks
  • Complete ad hoc requests and reports as required

Budgeting

  •  Analyze historical financial activity in order to prepare various general ledger accounts budgets
  • Assist with the preparation of actual versus budget reports; analyze historical activity and explain variances
  • Assist department with general budgeting tasks such as running various reports and reviewing them to ensure changes are properly inputted and to identify any material changes

Reporting

  • Prepare and distribute various financial reports
  • Assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual financial disclosures
  • Monitor general ledger expenses and prepare invoices for affiliate transactions

Required Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Powerpoint preferred but not required
  • Basic accounting knowledge preferred but not required

Basic Skills and Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good understanding of the English language and ability to communicate clearly
  • Good math, verbal and written communication skills
  • Good analytical skills 
  • Ability to compare data from a variety of sources for accuracy and completeness
  • Ability to follow, apply, interpret instructions and/or guidelines
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently within a team environment
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to complete projects and assignments with minimal supervision

 Equipment Operated:

  • Telephone
  • Desktop/ lap top computers
  • Standard office equipment (copiers, fax machines)

Education and Experience 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent 
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or in progress (Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, etc.), but not required
  • Prior customer service experience preferred, but not required

 Physical Requirements & Work Environment 

  • Requires sitting for prolonged periods of time
  • Requires lifting of up to 25 lbs.
  • Office setting w/controlled temperature

Complies with all State and Federal Banking regulatory requirements, including but not limited to: BSA, Anti-Money Laundering OFAC, CIP, Financial Elder Abuse Reporting, Sexual Harassment, Information Security and privacy requirements. Acts as the control point for the office to ensure that all CIP, BSA, OFAC requirements, procedures and time frames are met.

 As a part of the Bank’s internal control systems, employees holding sensitive positions are required to be absent from their duties for a minimum of two consecutive weeks each year. This position has been deemed to meet the test for a sensitive position, and therefore you will be required to meet the minimum absence requirement each and every year.
