Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (COM) has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, College of Medicine’s faculty are transforming the world of medicine every day. The Department of Radiology is a top-tier department with world-renowned faculty and staff.

 

A full-time Research Associate staff position is available in the Department of Radiology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.   The Research Associate supports imaging and clinical research by developing and maintaining data pipelines, databases, and analytic workflows; building lightweight dashboards; and collaborating with investigators and coordinators across studies. This role blends hands-on scripting (Python/SQL), REDCap configuration, and basic cloud/dev practices (Git, containers) with exposure to medical imaging data and multidisciplinary teamwork in radiology.

Essential Functions

  • Build and maintain research data pipelines for imaging studies, including data backups, preprocessing, feature extraction, quality control, and basic statistical analysis.
  • Develop custom Python scripts and tools using scientific computing libraries.
  • Design, query, and optimize MySQL/SQL databases.
  • Configure and customize REDCap projects and reports.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and provide technical support.
  • Develop dashboards.
  • Work with medical imaging data following SOPs.
  • Use Git, Docker, and cloud tools to document and share work.
  • Support study documentation, DSMB reporting, manuscripts, and presentations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Computer/Data Science, Engineering, or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in medical, academic, or healthcare informatics environments.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL/MySQL, and REDCap.
  • Familiarity with Git, Docker, and medical imaging workflows.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in a related field.

Required Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline.
  • May require experience with specialized software programs. 

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Experience with advanced medical imaging analyses. 
  • Experience running jobs on computational clusters or cloud platforms.
  • Strong communication and troubleshooting skills across technical and clinical domains. 
  • Knowledge of neuroradiology and stroke imaging. 
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams. 
  • Demonstrated success in publishing peer-reviewe
