Description

 

The Clinician Vascular Access Team is an expert in the field of vascular access and infusion therapy. This role involves the autonomous insertion and management of various vascular access devices, including midline and peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC). The Clinician will provide specialized patient care, educate staff, and contribute to the development of institutional policies and protocols. The Clinician works collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team and with unit managers to ensure safe and effective vascular access practices are maintained across the hospital. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Essential Functions

· Autonomously insert and manage midline and peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC), along with difficult peripheral IV catheter insertions as needed.

· Survey vascular access devices, identify potential complications, and assess device functionality across assigned units.

· Develop and implement educational programs for staff and patients on vascular access, infusion therapy, and related topics.

· Act as a clinical expert in vascular access, providing guidance and consultation to other healthcare providers and committees.

· Contribute to the formulation and evaluation of hospital and unit-specific policies and procedures related to vascular access and infusion therapy.

· Document and maintain accurate records of all procedures and interventions, including catheter insertions, removals, and surveillance data.

· Analyze trends in central line surveillance data, identifying potential issues such as infections, phlebitis, or clotting, and take appropriate action.

· Participate in the orientation and education of new employees and students.

· Provide focused surveillance of vascular access devices, ensuring the appropriate placement, use, and removal of devices.

· Collaborate with other healthcare team members, ensuring safe and effective vascular access management within the hospital.

 

Qualifications

 

Education

  • Associate's Degree Nursing

 

 

License/Registration

  • Registered Nurse - Issued by Florida or Compact State 

 

Certification

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross And

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross And

  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

     

     

    Work Experience and Additional Information

  • Two (2) years of clinical nursing experience, including initiation of IV therapy.
