Job Description
AECOM has a position available for a mid-career Mechanical Engineer to support our growing Energy Business Line. For this role, AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices in multiple locations across the United States through our Freedom to Grow program.

Our team provides a wide range of mechanical engineering services across markets sectors including oil and gas – upstream, midstream and downstream refining, industrial processes (chemical, petrochemical, food and beverage), mining/bulk material handling and future and renewable fuels (such as hydrogen, renewable natural gas, biogas, carbon capture).
The successful candidate is expected to be a detail oriented, experienced engineer who can make decisions independently under the guidance of senior staff. It is an excellent career opportunity for an engineer with a strong technical background and looking to grow into a project technical leadership role.
The responsibilities of this role also include, but may not be limited to, the following:
- Development of mechanical equipment and piping material specifications
- Produce calculations to inform design such as hydraulic modeling, pipe stress calculations, tank and pump sizing
- Coordination with mechanical design team to direct completion of engineering drawings.
- Multi-discipline collaboration on the development of equipment general arrangements, P&ID’s, isometrics, asset and tie-in lists, orthographic, etc.
- Attend client meetings and/or site field visits
- Works under limited supervision.
- Performs both routine and non-routine, complex design assignments that require judgment in resolving issues or making recommendations.
- Maintain open communication with project team (including remote staff) regarding workload planning, task estimating and budgeting
- Working with Project Engineers and Project Managers on developing workload forecasts, design schedules and budgets for electrical engineering work activities
- Creating, updating, and implementing group specific standards
- Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations.
- Interact with vendors, regulatory agencies and contractors
- Preparation of project specification and contract documents
- Ability to check and verify work prepared by peer/group
- Applies strong knowledge of industry standards, guides, specifications, and procedures specific to working in with US mechanical and industrial infrastructure
- Ensure that the technical and safety standards are maintained in all aspects of design work
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited college or university
- 4 years of relevant experience in industrial facility mechanical engineering
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 6+ years of experience preferred
- PE License or EIT
- Demonstrated experience with specifying mechanical equipment (e.g. rotating equipment, tanks, pneumatic conveying, dewatering)
- Familiarity with diverse metallurgy
- Demonstrated experience with engineering software packages: Caesar II, Pipe-Flo (or other hydraulic modeling applic
