Senior Counsel – Corporate Litigation

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role this Senior Counsel position will report to Amgen’s Vice President, Law, in the Corporate Litigation Group. The Corporate Litigation Group handles all of Amgen’s litigation except for intellectual property and employment law matters. The Corporate Litigation Group’s caseload spans a number of subject areas including antitrust, breach of contract, commercial disputes, securities, consumer class actions, product liability and government healthcare program matters. The Corporate Litigation Group also works on most government investigations and internal privileged compliance investigations.

This Senior Counsel role will be responsible for managing and developing case strategy, supervising and managing outside counsel, and regularly reporting on litigation developments. In addition, the Senior Counsel will have hands-on involvement in and responsibility for all aspects of case preparation, including witness interviews, discovery (extensive document productions, depositions, and drafting of discovery responses), motion practice, trial preparation, trials and appeals.

In addition to litigation and investigative work, the Senior Counsel will be responsible for counseling other law groups and Amgen employees on business disputes and other pre-litigation matters to minimize risk and ideally avoid litigation.

Domestic and possible international travel is expected

While proximity to Thousand Oaks is preferred, the Senior Counsel may also be located remotely in the U.S. Regardless, the role requires the ability to work client group hours as needed.

What we expect of you

We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. The Senior Counsel – Corporate Litigation we seek will have these qualifications.

Basic Qualifications:

J.D. degree or LL.M. degree from an accredited law school, admission to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction, and eight (8) years of litigation experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience with litigation, arbitration, and investigation matters for large companies

  • Experience at a large multinational law firm

  • Government experience desirable

  • Trial experience

  • Experience in the biotech and pharmaceutical industry

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
