SFI is responsible for database architecture support for a federal agency.

Spatial Front, Inc. is seeking an experienced senior database architect to join our team. The database architect will develop, optimize, and oversee the Agency’s conceptual and logical data systems. Duties may include preparing architect reports, monitoring the system, and supervising system migrations. This position is fully remote.



Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop a canonical data model and create a data repository based on this model, which can hold Agency data including portfolio, performance monitoring, and budget planning data from various IT systems.
  • Aggregate data from multiple Operating Units along with data from other Agency systems to present the Agency’s field and Washington-managed portfolio.
  • Provide dashboard and visualization capacity to view, compare, analyze, sort, aggregate, query, and report Agency information at various levels of granularity.
  • Enable the migration of data from Agency IT systems targeted for decommissioning by building and operating tools for such a data transfer.
  • Design and implement effective database solutions and models to store and retrieve Agency data.
  • Examine and identify database structural necessities by evaluating operations, applications, and programming.
  • Assess database implementation procedures to ensure they comply with internal and external regulations.
  • Design and implement information systems to guarantee Agency functionality.
  • Prepare accurate database design and architecture reports for management and executive teams.
  • Oversee the migration of data from legacy systems to new solutions.
  • Monitor system performance by performing regular tests, troubleshooting, and integrating new features.
  • Recommend solutions to improve new and existing database systems.
  • Educate staff members through training and individual support.
  • Offer support by responding to system problems in a timely manner.
Requirements
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of data architecture experience.
  • Experience using SQL Query Tools for Oracle, or PostgreSQL, SQL Server, etc.
  • Proficient in performing system and/or integration testing.
  • Skilled in performing system analysis and design.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills to articulate complex database concepts.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Desired Skills & Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of data modeling techniques and database design for both transactional and analytical systems.
  • Proven experience in managing large-scale databases and handling data migration projects.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with database query tools.
  • Hands-on experience with database technologies such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, MS Azure, and DynamoDB.
  • Strong background in developing, testing, and maintaining data applications, including ETL processes, data pipelines, and APIs.
  • Knowledge of database administration tasks, including backup, recovery, performance tuning, and monitoring.
  • Understanding of data migration strategies and tools.
  • Experience with version control systems like Git. Ability to work collaboratively in an Agile, scrum-based team environment.
  • Federal agency experience.

  • The salary for this position is $70,000 - $100,000 annually
