Group Leader, Materials, Vessels and Piping Technology

Responsibilities

This position is a supervisory/managerial role with approximately 20 direct reports. In this role, you’ll supervise a staff that provides materials, vessel and piping technical expertise and support for capital projects and plant support across the corporation.  In addition to materials, ASME code pressure vessels, API code tanks and piping expertise, this group provides technical support related to on/off valves, gaskets, mechanical analysis and evidence-based inspection.  The group leader helps align team member activities with respect to Corporate priorities.  The group leader also provides stewardship for a variety of department and division improvement initiatives and plays an integral role in the talent pipeline by recruiting, hiring and developing talent.

 

Partner Interface

• Provide central point for interface with the group
• Maintain awareness of and alignment with capital and manufacturing plant priorities
• Continually position the group to meet partner needs
• Interface with engineering contractor organizations

 
Supervisory

• Provide ongoing coaching and development for all employees
• Promptly address personnel issues
• Understand, develop and leverage each group member's strengths

 
Managerial

• Manage group workload and staffing levels
• Manage group controllable expenditures
• Communicate department, division and company information to group members
• Develop strategic vision for group and provide leadership to achieve the vision
• Provide leadership for key department and division initiatives

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum Required Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university is required
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Engineering preferred

 
Experience Required

• Minimum 7 years of experience required
• Leadership/Management Skills:
  • Adept at organization/prioritization and have the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects
  • Good at identifying opportunities for improvement and providing associated coaching to employees
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in leading teams, boundary management, problem solving, collaboration, and networking
