AECOM is actively growing the East Region Environmental Planning & Permitting (EPP) practice and is seeking a Senior Aquatic Ecologist/Marine Scientist within the Mid-Atlantic EPP Department. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with members from multidisciplinary teams in both marine and terrestrial environments and support wide range of environmental planning and permitting projects. Project opportunities may span a wide range of sectors, including Offshore Wind (OSW), Power, Oil and Gas, Ports and Harbors, Department of Defense, and other Federal clients.  The successful applicant will join a network of existing AECOM EPP specialists across the US to assist in project delivery.

For this opportunity, we will consider candidates in any of our Mid-Atlantic Regional offices including, but not limited to, the following: Baltimore, MD; Germantown, MD; Conshohocken, PA; Arlington, VA; Norfolk, VA; and District of Columbia.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform consulting work within scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Develop high-quality technical documents, reports deliverables, and proposals.
  • Coordinate, manage, and direct project field and data collection efforts.
  • Serve/support as an interface with clients and regulatory personnel.
  • Provide technical support to the EPP Department and individual Project Managers and support inter-disciplinary business development activities.
  • Perform client visits and field activities that require work outside the office and overnight travel.
  • Implement strong problem-solving skills to address challenges and contribute ideas, as well as think innovatively.
  • High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as in a collaborative team environment.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior and mid-level staff.
  • Proactively enforce a culture of producing high-quality work and the importance of Health & Safety within the team.
  • Collaborate with other AECOM offices, practices, and business lines.

     

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Marine Science, Fisheries, Biology, Ecology, or related field + 6 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and / or education.
    • 6+ years of relevant experience in the field of marine science/aquatic ecology
    • Valid Driver’s License and as a condition of employment must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.
    • Due to the nature of work, US Citizenship is required for this position. 

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in relevant field.
    • 10+ years of relevant industry experience desired with a demonstrated client focus.
    • Experience with regulator and stakeholder consultations (i.e., USFWS, NMFS, USACE, etc.).
    • Sound environmental understanding of environmental impact principles.
    • Thorough working knowledge of CWA, ESA, MSA, NHPA, NEPA, and other federal, state, and local regulations.
    • Experience working in both marine and freshwater ecosystems.
    • Demonstrated experience managing tasks and workload, working within interdisciplinary teams, and successful interface with Clients.
    • Experience preparing proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and change orders.
    • Experience in planning and implementing field studies in remote locations (offshore preferred)
    • Statistical data analysis and GIS skills.
    • Organizational management skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work.
    • Excellent communication skills, including both oral and written (writing sample required).
