Principal Hardware Test Engineer

About the role

We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Senior Hardware Test Engineer to lead the development and execution of advanced testing methodologies for hardware components and systems. This role requires a deep understanding of hardware design, validation, and reliability testing.  The role will have the chance to collaborate with team members, project leads, and developers to drive defects to resolution.  They are also expected to participate in the design and implementation of testing processes and procedures and will contribute to the improvement of our quality assurance method.

Responsibilities

  • Validate network hardware components such as switches, routers, transceivers, and fiber optic systems under various operational conditions, including stress, load, and failure scenarios.
  • Mentor junior engineers and act as a lead test engineer in multiple parallel projects.
  • Design, develop, and implement comprehensive test plans and procedures to validate hardware designs, with a focus on hands-on execution of tests and detailed reporting of results
  • Conduct functional, reliability, performance, and stress testing of materials and hardware systems, modules, and integrated systems
  • Develop and maintain test procedures, including functional, performance, and stress testing.
  • Perform detailed failure analysis, root cause investigations, and provide corrective action recommendations.
  • Analyze complex test data, produce clear technical reports, and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, understand, and clearly describe issues observed.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in hardware testing, validation, and verification.
  • Experience with networking hardware, particularly involving 100G and 200G PAM4 Ethernet switching.
  • Experience with network switch topologies, transceivers, fiber optics, and associated hardware.
  • Expertise in using test equipment (oscilloscopes, traffic generators, spectrum analyzers, etc.).
  • Advanced experience with test automation tools and scripting (Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB).
  • Proven experience in developing test strategies for mass production environments.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver results under tight deadlines.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading a small team and/or mentoring junior engineers.
  • Experience with Layer 1 ethernet testing and understanding of Layer 2 traffic.
  • Understanding of datacenter deployments from a hardware perspective.
  • Familiar with network switch design, ASICs, retimers.

 

Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of engineering or related experience.
