40Position Summary
Provides direct patient care and education for patients receiving treatments, examinations, surgeries, etc., in a medical office according to established procedures.Work schedule and shifts: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm.
Clinic overview: Clinic space is located in a satellite office off Ballas Road. This a small office, consisting of our 2 providers in colon/rectal surgery and 2 medical assistants, with a few other specialties within the clinic. Adult patient population (>18 y/o). The providers see ~30-40 patients each in clinic each week, and the remainder of the week is consumed with patient triage, answering phones, and other clinical needs requested per the provider.
Team structure and interactions: The team is small and therefore works very closely and well with one another. There is occasional communication with the primary colon/rectal group at Washington University. This will continue to rise as we continue to collaborate within our section. You will have daily contact with the MAs in the office, as well as with the providers.
Day-in-the-life snapshot: Administrative role will include patient triage and daily phone calls or patient results. The nurse will be responsible for aiding the providers with any clinical decisions, within the nurse scope of practice, as well as assist the MAs for patient needs that are outside of the MA scope of practice. The nurse will be a liaison between the patients and faculty and will be responsible for ensuring patient’s care is handled appropriately both pre- and post-operatively. Clinically the nurse will assist the providers with patients seen in the office for in-office procedures, patient education, surgical education, staple removals, wound and ostomy evaluations and education.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Utilizes the nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating a plan of patient care.
- Provides patient care, which may include administering medication, performing procedures and monitoring patient status in accordance with approved nursing practice.
- Provides appropriate counsel and education to patients/families regarding disease process and symptom management.
- Maintains medical records requiring appropriate and timely recording of patient information.
- Consults with members of the health care team, adjusting nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Assists the health care provider with examinations, procedures, prescription refills and other processes related to direct patient care.
- Maintains required skills and competencies and participates in educational programs, staff meetings and in services such as CPR as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current RN licensure in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois depending on location in accordance with Compact Act.
- Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).
