Job Description

Overview:

The role is part of the Domestic Digital Distribution Controllership function located in Universal City, Los Angeles. The Domestic Digital Distribution business is an evolving and growing business within Universal’s Home Entertainment business unit – a $1bn revenue generating business.

The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for assisting with the key domestic digital distribution month and quarter close and financial reporting processes. This person would have an accounting/finance degree, preferably with some entertainment experience and a desire to obtain a CPA designation. A qualified candidate must be able to multi-task and balance priorities on competing initiatives. This position reports to Manager, Finance; supports the VP, Global Controller, and will work closely with the FP&A, Global Distribution, and Global Finance Operations teams. This role will also support the global physical home entertainment and airlines businesses as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Controllership team with monthly and quarterly closing processes, preparation of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and corporate data requests. This includes working closely with Digital FP&A, Global Distribution, Global Finance Operations, and our Domestic Digital operational teams.
  • Maintain monthly close checklists and calendars to ensure close items are completed timely
  • Work with both internal and external teams to reconcile, track, and research discrepancies in monthly royalty reporting from our distributors, following up on variances and open items as required.
  • Managing ad hoc data requests from various teams across the business including participations, distribution partner accounting teams as well as ad hoc research.
  • Maintain our distributor audit calendar and manage audit checklists, working with our external auditors to provide required data and documentation.
  • Provide ad hoc support to the Global Physical and Airlines businesses on as needed basis.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS/BA in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of professional experience in Accounting or Finance.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Eligibility Requirements:

Desired Characteristics:

  • Strong understanding of GAAP.
  • Experience in SAP/AOE/BPC and/or microstrategy is preferred but not required.
  • Strong interest and/or previous experience in media and entertainment.
  • Possess an aptitude for financial systems, solid analytical abilities, outstanding process improvement capabilities, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with and mining large amounts of data and streamlining manual processes.
  • Advanced experience with Excel formulas/functions (eg. VLOOKUP, SUMIF, Pivot Tables, etc.)
  • Exceptional attention to detail and high standards for quality and accuracy.
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple and competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to building working relationships in a matrix environment.
