JOB SUMMARY
This position provides law enforcement, security, and other services to local schools.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Monitors and patrols campus and takes actions to prevent unwanted intruders; responds to intruder and other emergencies.
- Works with school administrators to develop and implement emergency plans to ensure the safety of staff, teachers, students, and visitors to the school campus.
- Identifies and presents delinquent behavior, including substance abuse; makes arrests when necessary; enforces campus rules and regulations.
- Operates school alarm and surveillance equipment.
- Responds to calls related to crime, threats, and other emergency situations.
- Prepares written reports and maintains daily logs.
- Conducts building and campus security assessments.
- Delivers plans for and provides security at school events.
- Provide information and direction to school administrators, teachers, students, and parents; mentors students and provides guidance as needed.
- Conducts courses and workshops for students, staff, and parents; delivers classroom presentations.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of law enforcement principles and practices.
- Knowledge of School Resource Officer program policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of school system policies, procedures, rules, and guidelines or the ability to learn.
- Knowledge of relevant laws, ordinances, court procedures, legal precedents, and government regulations.
- Knowledge of school security, threat assessment, and emergency response principles and practices.
- Skill in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports.
- Skill in the interpretation and application of federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Skill in planning, organizing, analyzing, decision making, and problem solving.
- Skill in the use and care of firearms and other standard and specialized equipment.
