AS400 iSeries Systems Administrator: Contractor

Kaizen Analytix LLC, an analytics services company is seeking an iSeries Systems Administrator to join the IT Development and Data Services team to support a client’s financial system related applications and databases, and other development artifacts within the organization. Role will report directly to the Software Engineering Manager and will be responsible for system patching and upgrades, hardware and software installation, system monitoring, and helpline support. Candidate may work remotely but must be available to provide hardware support in the remote data center facility and Chicago office. This role requires a 40 hours/week commitment for approximately 24 weeks.

Responsibilities:

• Candidate will be responsible for executing AS400 administration activities
• Performs diversified duties required to install, maintain, upgrade and support all IBM iSeries (AS/400) systems at Chicago and remote locations:
• Operating system patching
• Monitoring data replication and daily/monthly system backups
• Data restores/refreshes of development and test servers
• Oversees the maintenance of the system devices related to the CPU, disk, and all peripherals
• Identifies, analyzes, and documents product defects and fixes relating to financial planning and in-house custom applications and databases
• Assists the Software Engineering Manager in the day-to-day work of maintaining the financial system to ensure optimal performance
• Supports the time and billing software SurePoint Legal Management System (LMS)
• Creates and runs SQL queries for data analytics, issue resolution, testing, and monthly/ad hoc reporting
• Performs tasks as needed in support of annual DR planning and testing
• Creates and maintains documentation related to applications and application issues, including iSeries programs and DB2 table structure and data flows
• Collaborates with senior management, developers, IT peers, business teams, and legal staff
• Provides support resolution of daily incident tickets

Job Requirements:

• Minimum 2-4 years of work experience with monitoring and maintaining system operations as it relates to backup/recovery, data replication, communications, performance, and security principles
• Strong knowledge on operations/service delivery and working knowledge of commonly used concepts, best practices, and procedures within the IBM iSeries (AS/400) environment
• Ability to manage critical situations with minimum supervision and escalate when appropriate
• Must possess excellent communication skills – written and verbal
• Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in OS commands, Hardware Management Console (HMC), and other system utilities
• Strong knowledge of work management and performance tuning on the iSeries, and the ability to troubleshoot performance issues.
• Experience working with DB2 and SQL Server databases
• Ability to demonstrate understanding of database concepts (i.e., normalizations/de-normalizations, schemas, table spaces, temporary tables, views, indexes, sequences, partitioning, UDFs, stored procedures and triggers etc.)
• Adaptable, able to pivot quickly when scope or objectives of projects change
• Local to the Chicagoland area for hardware support at both the Chicago office and colocation facility
• Level of Education: Associates (Two Year Degree)

Preferred

• IBM iSeries (AS/400) LPAR multiple system administrator experience preferred
• Previous experience providing IT support in a 24-hour operational environment preferred
• Previous experience working in a law firm is preferred but not a requirement.
