Under general direction, the successor in this role will manage, maintain, and secure the Office's database systems; oversee database design, implementation, and troubleshooting, ensuring optimal performance and data integrity; enhance the efficiency and security of the database infrastructure.

Overview:
Under general direction, the successor in this role will manage, maintain, and secure the Office's database systems; oversee database design, implementation, and troubleshooting, ensuring optimal performance and data integrity; enhance the efficiency and security of the database infrastructure.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain database systems for optimal performance and reliability.
- Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches and versions when required.
- Ensure database security (working closely with the data security team), backup, and recovery plans are in place and effective.
- Collaborate with IT teams to integrate databases with other software applications. Provide technical expertise and support in database design, development, and management.
- Analyze and report on database performance and suggest improvements.
- Completes necessary education, training, and certifications to stay abreast of latest technologies effecting Illinois Secretary of State information security.
- Travels as necessary for education and meetings.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
- Proficient in database administration, management, or a related field.
- Working scholarship of database languages like SQL, and experience with database management software.
- Functioning knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell.
- Know-how with cloud-based database services.
- Experience with data backup, recovery, security, integrity, and SQL.
- Requires experience in a government or public sector IT environment.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Advanced database certifications (e.g., Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL).
