Milliman’s Milwaukee-based Property and Casualty practice is one of the leading experts in P&C insurance matters. We are leading experts in evaluating mortgage collateral for government agencies, mortgage lenders, insurers, reinsurers, and investors. Our consulting work is supported by a powerful toolkit of data analytics solutions informed by years of in-depth work in the mortgage industry.
The Opportunity
Milliman’s mortgage group provides a software-as-a-service (SaaS) product to model mortgage performance and securitization structures: Milliman M-PIRe. M-PIRe is a cloud-based software that models risk data used by mortgage reinsurers.
Information technology has been a key part of our success and is critical to our future. On a day-to-day basis, the Database Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining, documenting, and validation / quality control of Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) processes for data pipelines in a cloud computing environment. Once data is loaded and automated processes are created, the Database Engineer will be responsible for maintaining the database of financial data used to support the M-PIRe software product.
Ideal candidates will have experience developing and implementing database solutions, managing large datasets with frequent updates, as well as experience within SQL and relational databases. Candidates that have experience with C#, Python, R, SAS, or other analytical software are also encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities will include:
- Design, develop, and maintain robust data ETL processes and data pipelines using Microsoft Azure.
- Optimize code and computing resources to ensure efficient and reliable data extraction, transformation, and loading.
- Document all data sources, processes, and code to facilitate knowledge sharing and maintain compliance according to Milliman’s Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
- Ensure data quality and integrity across all data processes via creation and maintenance of data validation / quality control reports.
- Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver practical solutions.
- Manage project priorities, deadlines and deliverables.
- Follow established company standards and best practices.
- Take initiative and be responsible for technical solutions to business challenges.
What We Are Looking For
Professional Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field such as software engineering, computer engineering, computer science
- Up to two years of practical experience working with SQL and relational databases – related coursework and/or internships may be included in professional experience
- Knowledge of database design concepts and ETL processes
