Database Engineer

We are looking for a DBA with hands-on experience supporting Microsoft-SQL Server. This role will be primarily focused on production database administration for Microsoft SQL Server and secondary support in Vertica and products such as Sybase, MySQL and MongoDB. This individual will work closely with senior DBAs on the team and various development groups in productionizing and optimizing applications leveraging Microsoft SQL Server and the other database products supported in the MLP ecosystem.

Responsibilities

• Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems
• Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
• Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes
• Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
• Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server
• Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security
• Effectively‌ ‌coordinate‌ ‌and‌ ‌communicate‌ ‌with‌ ‌all‌ ‌the‌ ‌stakeholders‌ ‌(internal‌ ‌teams‌ ‌and‌ ‌clients)‌ ‌&‌ ‌set‌ ‌up‌ ‌and‌ ‌maintain‌ ‌database‌ ‌infrastructure‌
• Ensure all database servers are managed to Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO)
• In-depth Windows Clustering, Windows Services, and Windows Server Configuration knowledge
• Experience in writing automation scripts, building application dashboards for proactive monitoring using PowerShell, Python scripting or similar technologies, ability to debug and optimize code and automate routine tasks
• Experience with Storage Area network (SAN)
• Fulfills user requests ranging from access control, backup, restore to runbook performance tuning.

Qualifications/Skills Required

• Bachelor degree in computer science, or information technology, or other related field of study
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience in Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration/ Engineering
• Quick learner, detail oriented; Demonstrable thoroughness and strong ownership of work.
• Good team player with a strong willingness to participate and help others.
• Able to prioritize in a fast moving, high pressure, constantly changing environment; High sense of urgency

Desired Skills

• Good understanding of Python programming and its frameworks.
• Some exposure in developing web applications using the Flask framework.
• API Development: Exposure of and basic understanding of designing and implementing RESTful APIs.
• JavaScript and React: Competence in JavaScript and React for front-end development and integration.
