The Opportunity

As the Data Visualization Developer, you will support the Digital Delivery division, primarily with PowerBI and Tableau. You will work with business owners to define and improve data visualization services and collaborate with project directors and clients to design and implement data visualization solutions. Responsibilities include documenting and analyzing business requirements; researching, testing, implementing, and managing Data Visualization infrastructure to support project data visualization needs; providing internal and external training and presentations; and supporting internal and external proposals. You will work with data from a wide range of projects across multiple subject matters, including but not limited to health systems strengthening, education, housing, food securities, and environmental compliance. You should demonstrate a willingness to seek novel solutions to technology and business problems and the flexibility to acquire the necessary skills for implementation. 

Core Responsibilities

• Serve as a resource to project staff in all phases of the development and implementation of data visualization systems, solutions, and process improvements.
• Create initial wireframes/mock-ups and proofs of concepts based on provided design guidance.
• Consider technical and functional requirements and key business questions throughout the development process
• Develop data visualizations aimed at internal, client, and public audiences
• Apply an understanding of data sources included in a dashboard to its design and data validation.
• Ensure dashboards meet accessibility requirements as applicable and as a design principle.
• Work closely with the project team to normalize data and make it available for visualization.
• Test data transformation processes for accuracy given various expected and unexpected inputs
• Test quality of visualizations across all supported browsers and devices.
• Employ strong SQL skills for analysis, validation, and verification of data.
• Support project by training team on use of solution.
• Ability to pick up additional skills quickly.

What We Value

• Bachelor’s Degree + 2 years of relevant experience, or Master’s Degree + 0 years of relevant experience.
• Power BI experience including skills such as Power BI semantic models, report builder, power query, row-level security, and DAX expressions.
• Tableau experience including skills such as calculations, data modeling, dashboard formatting (containers, padding, mobile layouts), filters, parameter actions, SQL connections, and row-level security.
• Ability to understand various data types, sources, architecture, and structure needed to implement data visualization solutions.
• Database experience in Snowflake/MySQL/SQL Server/PostgreSQL/Redshift
• Wireframing experience in tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, or Figma
• Version control repositories such as Bitbucket or GitHub
• Software development tools like Jira and Confluence
• A desire to write re-usable, readable code using the most up to date industry standards
• Strong communication skills, particularly in translating perceived needs into technical requirements.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
