Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Data Scientist to join our Risk Strategy team. In this role, you will play a critical part in managing loss and driving growth across Venmo and PayPal. You will leverage advanced data analytics, machine learning, and statistical techniques to detect fraud patterns, design real-time risk solutions, and support new product launches.

Your strong analytical skills and proactive attitude will directly impact Venmo/PayPal by managing and mitigating financial loss from fraud risk, as you work on multiple assignments simultaneously across all areas of related projects. 
 

Your day to day 

Data Scientists are on the front line of identifying and targeting fraud to keep our millions of users secure and engaged. Risk Data Scientists apply their analytical and technical skills to researching data, monitoring, and creating logics that stop fraudulent activity on Venmo’s platform. They analyze existing loss trends and define logics, solutions, and operational processes that prevent them - while delivering best-in-class customer experience for Venmo users. 

 

What do you need to bring 

Bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative field (Business, Math, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Science, Engineering)  

3+ years of experience in solving problems using a data-driven approach 

Strong proficiency in analytical tools and languages such as SQL, Python, BigQuery, Machine learning and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI). 

Proven track record in the field of data analysis or statistical analysis 

Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
