  • Arconic is seeking to hire a Data Engineer at the Arconic Technology Center outside of Pittsburgh, PA (New Kensington). As a member of the Fabrication Technology Department, the successful candidate will be assigned to multiple project teams to develop and manage numerous data processing workflows that support process and product improvements.
  • The candidate will collaborate with IT, OT, and subject matter experts to automate and monitor complex ETL (Extract, Transfer, Load) pipelines from numerous data sources in support of various applications.
  • The candidate will be responsible for manipulating, organizing, and cleaning data in multiple environments, formats, and programming languages.
  • The candidate shall have the ability to drive projects to completion and effectively communicate results through reports, patents, and/or presentations. As such, excellent communication skills are required.
Major Activities 
  • Develop and maintain complex ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines from existing databases to support R&D projects.
  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain appropriate database management systems for new applications.
  • Develop automated tools that monitor the quality of new data entering the data infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot errors and problems that arise in the system as needed.
  • Perform Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) and communicate findings with stakeholders. 
Basic Qualifications 
  • B.S. degree in Data Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Science, or a related quantitive field. - OR - M.S. degree in Data Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Science, or a related quantitative field, with a B.S. degree in a technical field.
  • Minimum 6 months experience in writing SQL queries in at least one of the following: MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Microsoft SQL Server, or ORACLE SQL.
  • Minimum 6 months experience with a scripting language such as R or Python.
  • Proficiency in writing SQL queries in at least one of the following: MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Microsoft SQL Server, or ORACLE SQL.
  • Knowledge of relational database design principles.
  • Proficiency with a scripting language like R or Python.
  • Proficiency with open-source data manipulation libraries such as dplyr in R and/or Pandas in Python. 
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. 
  • This position may require access to export-controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. §730, et seq.) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Qualified candidate must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the relevant government agency. Business demands may require employer to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
  Preferred Qualifications 
  • B.S. and M.S. degree in Data Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Science, or a related quantitive field.
  • Ability to collaborate with other disciplines (Manufacturing, IT, etc.) to deploy solutions/applications for widespread use.
  • Experience organizing and manipulating large volumes of flat files.
  • Experience creating R Shiny Web Applications for data exploration and visualization.
  • Experience with regular expressions.
  • Knowledge of Tidy Data principles.
  • Experience with linear models for regression and logistic regression for binary classification.
  • Experience using APIs.
  • Working knowledge of engineering and/or manufacturing processes.
